Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana is the “Will Rogers” of the U.S. Senate. Will Rogers was an early 20th century American cowboy, humorist, vaudeville performer, actor, and social commentator. He was well known for skewering politicians for their stupidity, greed and self importance.
Senator Kennedy also uses humor to skewer politicians, the media and government employees. He is a vocal advocate for American energy independence. He believes that the Biden administration’s war on oil is the single most destructive policy that is driving rampant inflation, including the higher costs of gasoline, diesel fuel, and natural gas. The senator decided to brilliantly make his point about Biden’s war on oil by announcing his intention to offer an amendment authorizing funds to research automobiles powered by fairy dust and unicorn urine.
Senator Kennedy is, without argument, the most purposefully humorous legislator in the country. His good-old boy persona allows him to expertly clarify his views on important topics by using colorful observations, dripping sarcasm, biting wit and smart commentary. The “country lawyer” is a favorite of conservative media because he’s dependably humorous and colorfully quotable.
Kennedy’s most recent campaign ad used during his re-election campaign in Louisiana stated his views perfectly:
Are you ready? Here is President Biden's energy policy in a nutshell. First, we’re gonna stop producing our own oil. Then, we’re going to buy oil from foreign countries that hate us so those foreign countries can have more money to buy weapons to try to kill us. Sometimes, I think President Biden is more concerned about the best cure for toenail fungus than he is about saving American jobs. Someone please tell the commander-in-chief that neither my car nor the greatest economy in all of human history runs on fairy dust and unicorn urine.
This writer’s only problem with Senator Kennedy is that he lives in the wrong state. If he lived in Texas, I would vote for him.
